Redefining Time: A Smarter Way to Work, Live, and Thrive

This blog will show you how to refine your time which will help you to work smarter, live and thrive.

We’ve all had those moments when we felt like time was slipping through your fingers? Like you were busy all day, but didn’t move forward on what really matters?

We all experience this from time to time, and it’s important to realise that being busy is not the same as being effective.

But what if I told you that how you structure your time might be the missing link between burnout and balance, between surviving and thriving?

Let’s talk about a new way of redefining Time: For A Smarter Way to Work, Live, and Thrive

It’s called the Breakthrough Results Time System (originally created by Dan Sullivan), and it can change everything.

🧠 Step 1: Work in Your Zone of Genius – Best Results Days

This first shift is all about clarity. You weren’t born to do everything – you were born to shine in a few specific areas that energise you, empower others, and get powerful results.

Best Results Days are when you spend at least 80% of your time doing what you do best – your core genius. The kind of tasks where time flies and you feel on purpose.

📝 Your coaching-style reflection:

  • What are the 1–3 things you do effortlessly that others find challenging?
  • What activities give you the best return – emotionally, financially, or impact-wise?
  • When do you feel most confident, most valuable, most in flow?

For me, those days often include coaching and helping people find clarity and confidence in who they are and where they’re going.

For me, these are the days when work doesn’t feel like work. They’re energising, focused, and productive.

✨ Try this:
Block off just one day next week to work solely in your zone of genius. Protect that time fiercely. Watch how much more you accomplish, and how much better you feel doing it.

🔧 Step 2: Set Yourself Up for Success – Preparation Days

Not every day can be high-performance mode – and that’s okay. In fact, it’s essential.

Preparation Days are when you learn, plan, organise, delegate, or restock your mental shelves. These days aren’t flashy, but they make your Best Results Days possible.

Think about:
✔️ Researching a new tool
✔️ Brainstorming your next workshop
✔️ Delegating tasks to your VA
✔️ Planning your goals or outlining a big project

Preparation is not a detour from your goals – it’s the groundwork. And just like a great athlete, you need training days in between performance days.

🧘‍♀️ Step 3: Rest Like You Mean It – True R&R Days

This might be the most important part.
Rest & Recreation Days are completely work-free. I mean it. No laptop, no email “check-ins”, no “I’ll just squeeze this in”.

They’re about being fully unavailable to everyone but yourself (and real emergencies). And no, being out of hummus doesn’t count as an emergency 😉

We’re conditioned to believe that rest has to be earned. But the truth is: You don’t rest because you’re weak, you rest so you can be strong.

💡 Consider this:

  • When was the last time you had a full day off – not just physically, but mentally?
  • What does real rest look like for you? A long walk? A creative hobby? Time in nature or just… silence?

One of the advantages of scheduling consistent R&R Days, is that your brain gets space. Your creativity resets. Your energy replenishes. You come back clearer, sharper, and more inspired.

And no – taking time off won’t make you fall behind. It will catapult you forward.

🧭 So How Do You Start?

Start with awareness. Then move into intention. Here’s how:

  1. Audit your month: Count how many Best Results Days, Preparation Days, and R&R Days you’ve had recently. Be honest.
  2. Plan with purpose: Start blocking out 1 of each type per week. Adjust as needed.
  3. Protect your time: You don’t need permission to prioritise your life. You just need a calendar and some courage.
  4. Talk to your people: Whether it’s your team or your family, loop them into your plan so they can support it – and be inspired by it too.

🦋 Your Life, On Your Terms

Redefining your time isn’t just about productivity. It’s about creating a life that feels like yours – aligned with your values, your genius, and your joy.

Let this be the week you start. One Best Results Day. One R&R Day. One tiny shift toward the life you’ve been craving.
